Top Sights You Can’t Miss in Istanbul

Topkapi Palace Museum

This was the main residence and administrative headquarters of the Ottoman Sultans in the 15th and 16th century. The construction of this began in 1459, six years after the conquest of Constantinople. It is now the largest museum in Istanbul located in the east of the Faith District.

Blue Mosque

An imperial mosque of the Ottoman-era, pulls a large number of tourists everywhere as it represents wonderful pieces of art from Istanbul. This mosque was created between 1609. This Blue Mosque was also present in the UNESCO World Heritage Site list in 1985, in the category of Historic Areas of Istanbul.

Hagia Sophia

Formerly the church of Hagia Sophia is now officially a mosque. It is a late antique place of worship. This was built in 537 as a cathedral of the capital of Constantinople. Basilica Cistern

One of the most mystical buildings in Istanbul with two medusa heads supporting two columns of the cistern at the northwest edge. Medusa was one of the underground Gorgona Sisters.  This is one of the largest ancient cistern present in the city. This cistern was used for the water filtration system for the Great Palace of Constantinople. The ticket to get in is €9.50.

Galata Tower

One of the most popular landmarks in Istanbul  dates back to the 14th century. The tower, overlooking the beautiful city, is an old Genoese Tower. It has a massive cone structure constructed 38 meters above sea level. This tower was first built in the Byzantine Era. It was also used as a prison during the Ottoman era.

Sea Life Aquarium

This is located in the Forum Shopping Center in the Bayrampasa district in Istanbul. This is the 5th largest aquarium in the world.
